Silversea streams free movies and live TV news to mobile devices
Guests aboard Silver Cloud are the first to experience this techie treat.
As if the hundreds of movies that you can watch for free in your suite aboard Silversea’s ships wasn’t enough “wow.” This ultra-luxury cruise line now makes it possible for guests aboard the Silver Cloud to receive streaming movies and live television news broadcasts directly to their laptop, tablet, smartphone. Essentially, any Wi-Fi enabled device with a browser. And it’s free!
The first ship in the fleet’s rollout for this cruise industry innovation, the Silver Cloud will offer guests an extensive library of classic and recent Academy Award-winning feature films. Because Silversea attracts international passengers, more than 80 percent of the movies will be offered in five languages: English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
Fabio Agostini, Silversea’s chief information officer, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this innovative service to enhance our guests’ onboard experience. Smartphones and tablets are a necessity for today’s travelers, who rely on instant access to information.”
If you don’t have a Wi-Fi enabled device with you on your cruise, Silver Cloud guests will be able to borrow a tablet from the ship, although the supply will be limited. It’s on a first-come, first-served basis, so I would suggest to bring your own device from home, rather than miss this new option.
Four more Silversea ships, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, Silver Wind and Silver Galapagos will be included in this onboard service by the end of this year.
