Royal Caribbean to Bring New Star of the Seas to Port Canaveral
Port Canaveral, strategically located on Florida’s Space Coast, will soon be the homeport for the world’s largest cruise ship, Star of the Seas.
Here’s what to expect when Star of the Seas is welcomed to Port Canaveral, the world’s busiest cruise port, in August 2025.
Port Canaveral Will Homeport Star of the Seas
Port Canaveral, with its convenient parking and location, is only an hour’s drive from Orlando International Airport and a jumping off point for nearby Orlando family vacations. Currently, Port Canaveral is home to the second-largest cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas.
Star of the Seas Highlights
The ship is currently under construction in Turku, Finland, and Royal Caribbean promises that this new ship will redefine the cruise experience. Star of the Seas can accommodate up to 7,514 passengers across 2,805 staterooms.
What to Expect Onboard Star of the Seas
- Star of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class ships, known for their family-friendly focus and innovative offerings.
- The ship is approximately 5% larger than Royal’s Oasis-class ships and boasts two additional decks, with a total of 20 decks. Of those, 18 are open to the public.
- Both Icon-class vessels, including Star of the Seas, can be powered by liquefied natural gas, aligning with Royal Caribbean’s commitment to sustainability.
- Anticipate a waterpark with slides, a massive AquaDome, and eight distinct neighborhoods for a diverse range of onboard experiences.
- Six record-breaking waterslides and a fear-inducing challenge high above the sea bring on the screams.
- Seven unique pools deliver relaxation with epic views. There will be over 40 ways to dine and drink, plus a variety of exciting entertainment.
Comparisons with Icon of the Seas:
- Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s latest addition, features 20 decks, accommodating up to 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members, with a gross tonnage of 250,800.
- In contrast, Wonder of the Seas, currently the second-largest cruise ship, has 18 decks and a gross tonnage of 235,600.
Where Will Star of the Seas Cruise?
The new ship’s first cruise from Port Canaveral is planned for August 17, 2025 on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise.
From Royal Caribbean’s announcement of these new itineraries, it looks like Star of the Seas will sail on a pattern of two consecutive Eastern Caribbean cruises followed by one Western Caribbean cruise.
The Eastern Caribbean sailings include a variety of different ports depending on the date of departure. Among the ports are Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Phillipsburg, St. Maarten and on the inaugural sailing, Basseterre, St. Kitts.
Western Caribbean cruises may include Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico.
