oasis-of-the-seas After years of hoping and planning, the Canaveral Port Authority is making final preparations for the arrival on November 5, 2016 of the Oasis of the Seas. Weighing in at a whopping 225,000 gross tons, the Oasis of the Seas will call the new Cruise Terminal 1 its new homeport.

In anticipation of getting an Oasis-class ship, the Port Authority built a $104.6 million 188,000 square foot terminal and 1007-vehicle parking facility specifically to accommodate this class of ship. The 5,400 passenger Oasis of the Seas, will replace the 3,634 passenger Freedom of the Seas from its long-time home at Port Canaveral.

As has become a ritual at Port Canaveral when a new ship takes up residence, the Port Authority has invited the community to join in a Sail-a-Bration to be held at adjacent Jetty Park, on November 13 from 3-6pm. Well-wishers will be on hand to bid Oasis of the Seas bon voyage as she sails from her new homeport bound for a seven-night Caribbean cruise.

Admission to the Jetty Park event is complimentary and festivities will begin at 2pm. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donation to the Sharing Center of Central Brevard.
