Tour Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 Inside Stateroom
Ever wonder what it would be like in an inside stateroom for 7 days on a transatlantic cruise?
Here’s a short video tour of my inside stateroom from my recent seven-night transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York City.
Queen Mary 2 Inside Stateroom Tour
I really thought I’d be a little claustrophobic in an inside stateroom, especially since it was a transatlantic crossing and no port visits for seven days. Back in 2005, on my first-ever trip to Europe, I booked an inside on Celebrity Century.
An inside was all I could afford on the 14-day crossing from Ft. Lauderdale to Amsterdam. The redeeming factor was that I chose an inside on the highest deck that had an exit door to the area above the Lido deck, only steps away. Almost like having a private balcony since it was fairly secluded.
Here on Queen Mary 2, the inside was also on a lower deck and would require a couple of flights up outdoor access on the Promenade deck. After the first night, though, I was acclimated and learned to enjoy the calm darkness during the day for naps. However, I did figure out how to deal with not knowing when daylight was going to break.

Want to know a good trick when cruising in an inside stateroom? At bedtime, turn your TV to the bridgecam channel and turn off the sound. Because it’s nighttime, the screen is obviously dark.
As dawn approaches, just as a window begins to let in light, so will your TV screen. This way, you’ll automatically be aware of whether it’s day or night. And you’ll save a lot of money, too!
So that’s how I learned to cope in an inside stateroom…on any ship. Sure, if I can catch a sale on an oceanview or balcony, I’ll jump at the chance. But if I’m cruising during high season or if space is nearly sold out, I’ll take that inside stateroom rather than pass up a chance for a memorable cruise.
