Another Royal Caribbean Ship Gets Multi-Million Dollar Makeover
Oasis of the Seas Makeover and a 10th Birthday Present
Royal Caribbean just announced that it will spend upwards of $165 million to makeover the 10-year old Oasis of the Seas. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a decade since this ground-breaking, cruise industry-changing ship was launched.
This is all part of Royal Caribbean’s 10-ship refurbishment project called Royal Amplification. During the Oasis of the Seas makeover, the ship will receive quite a few additions, to say the least.
The 63-day refurbishment will be massive. It seems like the majority of the renovation will take place on the pool deck. While amping up the outdoor area with a notably Caribbean theme, there’ll be several additions that will probably knock your socks off.

Oasis Pool Deck makeover
To begin with, in the Pool and Sports Zone, a new Splashaway Bay will include a water park for little kids. There’ll be a miniature splash pad, three mini waterslides, pint-sized water canons and two drench buckets.
For kids-at-heart, there’ll be three crazy water slides that comprise The Perfect Storm. If you’re really daring, you can take a plunge down The Abyss, billed as the tallest water slide at sea.
After (or before) braving The Abyss, adults can stop by the Lime and the Coconut outdoor bar for a tropical drink accompanied by live Caribbean-style music.
Dining Addition
BBQ joints on ships are really popular so Royal Caribbean is finally getting into the act. Joining Carnival and Norwegian, Oasis of the Seas makeover will include a Royal version called Portside BBQ. This will be Royal Caribbean’s first-ever barbecue restaurant. You can try barbecue dishes like smoked marbled brisket, pulled pork, burnt-ends, and ribs. Plus corn bread, baked beans and your typical BBQ joint sides.
The Pool Deck will add Royal Caribbean’s casual, grab-and-go Mexican eatery called El Loco Fresh, with made-to-order tacos, burritos, and quesadillas.
Wander down to the Boardwalk Neighborhood to find Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. The amplified space will feature 80 big-screen TVs, tabletop games, arcade games, tournaments, an Owner’s Box VIP room, bar fare and ice-cold brews.

Also on the Boardwalk, if you have a sweet tooth, stop in at Sugar Beach, with over 220 types of candy and a new walkup ice cream window. Your kids will thank you for it.
Sing About the Changes at the Royal Promenade
The busy indoor Royal Promenade will have a new karaoke stage called Spotlight Karaoke, plus two private singing rooms. Live music lovers should stop in at Music Hall for their cover bands, dancing and pool tables.
If you haven’t seen this yet on other ships, the Bionic Bar and its robotic bartenders will shake, stir and pour you cocktail. It’s a lot of fun to watch these “arms” at work.
Following the refurbishment, Oasis of the Seas will spend the winter sailing 7-night cruises from Miami, beginning November 24, 2019. In May 2020, the ship will move to Bayonne, NJ for 7-night cruises to the Bahamas.
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for your questions. I am pretty sure the work on Oasis is being done overseas and I don’t see any repositioning/transatlantic cruises from Barcelona to Miami. Royal Caribbean does not offer 30-day cruise. There are a lot of new ships on order and being built in Europe for several cruise lines that will be delivered later this year and for the next few years. Check with a travel agent who can help you look for a transatlantic on a new ship.
Bon Voyage,
Sherry
where will the upgrade of the Oasis Ship be done. Will there be a transatlantic of any kind to get the ship from there back to Miami.. How long would the transatlantic be. Does Royal. Caribbean do longer cruises such as 30 days and longer. Will there be any new ships coming out that are being built overseas, then doing a longer cruise to get that ship to it’s main port.
