Viking Celebrates Seventh Ship Float Out in Italy
There was some good news from Viking Cruises last week. Their newest and seventh ocean ship, Viking Venus, touched the water for the first time during a traditional maritime “float out” event.

The float out event took place at Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy as another milestone was successfully passed in the construction of the new ship. This is a significant step in ship building because it marks the beginning of the final phase of construction. As a cord was ceremoniously cut, water flowed into the ship’s building dock for the first time.
“We started Viking’s ocean project eight years ago, and together with Fincantieri we have built the world’s most beautiful ships. Today we are pleased to celebrate this important milestone in the construction of our seventh ocean ship,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “As the world continues its path to recovery from COVID-19, we remain focused on the future, and with strong bookings for 2021 and the enthusiasm of our guests, we are optimistic about what is to come. I would like to thank our partners at Fincantieri and everyone working at the yard in Ancona for the hard work and dedication on the building of Viking Venus, and we look forward to welcoming her to our fleet early next year.”
Following the Viking Venus float out and two-day process to actually float the ship, it was repositioned to the shipyard’s outfitting dock. This is where work begins on the interior of a ship as well as all the final construction takes place.
