Celebrity Edge at Home in Fort Lauderdale
Celebrity Edge arrives from Europe to its new home in Fort Lauderdale.
Yesterday, November 19, 2018, marked the date that the new Celebrity Edge was greeted with sprays of water upon arriving into Port Everglades, Florida. At the exact same time, I was disembarking the 26-year-old Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas. A quick jaunt up to the outside deck and I would have been witness to this incredible welcoming display. I could kick myself. From the little peek I had as I drove away from the port, I could see the fireboat escort and the fanfare.
President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, remarked, “The completion of her first-ever transatlantic crossing and arrival at T25 marks such a historic moment for Celebrity Cruises. This has been more than four years in the making. The collaboration and effort between teams across the world all comes together in this incredible moment. I can think of no better place to be than with Captain Costas and the crew of Celebrity Edge knowing that we are sailing into the future, literally and figuratively, with this beautiful ship.”
Billed as a game-changer, Celebrity Edge is designed with an outside view in mind. Below, the Magic Carpet is the world’s first cantilevered, floating platform and can be elevated up to 13 stories above sea level. It includes ample seating for 100 guests, a full bar and an area for live music.
At the very top of the ship in the Magic Carpet, you can have Dinner on the Edge. When the Magic Carpet is lowered to the pool deck, it becomes an extension of the main pool area. On Deck 5, it becomes an open-air restaurant. And on and on. Pretty cool.
Celebrity Edge begins her inaugural season with alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises. In spring of 2019, Celebrity Edge returns to Europe offering seven- to 11-night sailings Mediterranean cruises that include port visits to Barcelona and Rome.
