As of September 3, 2020, Carnival Cruise Line has expanded their list of cruise cancellations. With the CDC No Sail Order still in effect through October 31, there’s been another reshuffling of the deck chairs for the next round of cruises to cancel.

List of Carnival cruise cancellations

This time, the latest round of Carnival cruise cancellations finds some ships not sailing into 2022. Itineraries and deployments change as Carnival continues to send older ships to the scrapyard.

Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration are at the Aliaga, Turkey ship breaking yard. Carnival Imagination is en route and scheduled to arrive in Turkey mid-September. Carnival Fascination long-term layup – translation: will probably soon head to meet sister ships in Aliaga, Turkey.

When will Carnival begin cruising

If a ship isn’t mentioned above then it’s only canceled through and including October 31, 2020. In addition, if the CDC lifts its No Sail Order, in theory Carnival should begin some cruises by November. At least that’s the plan right now.

We should hear fairly soon from the CDC if they decide to extend or cancel their No Sail Order.

  1. Hi Sandra,
Thank you for your email and for reading my article. It looks like the “official” No Sail Date has been moved to October 31 (the cruise lines had already voluntarily chosen that date months ago). If it were me (mid-60s), I would not feel comfortable going on a cruise in November or December. Whether you should cancel now or wait and see if Carnival cancels the sailing and offers perks to rebook is a sticky decision for you to make.

How the cruise lines can ramp up all that needs to be done to just try and ensure a covid-free cruise, within two months, is challenging at best. If I were you, I would call either your travel agent or Carnival and ask the reservations person if you cancel, is Carnival offering any incentives if you rebook for 2021 as well as if you would have to pay a penalty to rebook. Also, ask for the dates that each new penalty period kicks in and jot this down for reference. It may buy you some time to make your decision to cancel or go or Carnival may cancel anyway. Always…when canceling within a certain time bracket, do your cancellation on the day before it states.

If you have to pay a penalty anyway…you may want to hang in there and wait and see if Carnival ends up canceling your cruise. If this isn’t an option, ask if you can have a voucher or future cruise credit in the amount of the penalty. Cruise lines hate to part with actual cash.

I hope this helps your decision. Thank you again for your comment. Happy travels…eventually!

  2. We are scheduled to cruise the Glory Nov.29=Dec, 13,2020. We are of the age 70 and 80 and feel tthat it may not be a smart idea for use to sail safely. do you suggest we cancel now or wait to see what the CDC sys about sailing. Will we get a full refund?

  3. Hi Steve,
Thank you for your question. Sorry, but I still can’t find out which ship will take over that itinerary. As soon as a new list of updates is posted by Carnival or sent to agents and media, I will update on my site. I expect some word from Carnival within the next week as we get closer to the CDC No Sail Date expiration.

  4. Hi Thomas,
Thank you for your question. Your bet option is to contact Carnival for that information. It could change sometime in the next week or so. Thanks again for writing.

  5. Hi Sherry, Booked on the Carnival Radiance on May 28,2021 for a 9 day to Key West, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Bahamas. I see that the Radiance isn’t going to be available. Any word on which ship will take it’s place or will it be cancelled? Thanks.

  6. Is the Big Nude Cruise on the Carnival Legend from Tampa, Fla. on February 14th to February 28th 2021 to Panama still scheduled to go?

  7. Hi Pam,
Thank you for reading my article and emailing your question. As of Carnival’s latest cancellation list on September 3, 2020, Vista is still scheduled to depart in November. However, this could change at any time, as well as an update from the CDC about the No Sail Order. Please check back periodically as I’ll post any updates as soon as they are announced.
    Sherry

  8. Hi Bonnie,
Thank you for reading the article and sending your question, it’s much appreciated. Carnival’s latest update on Sept. 3, 2020 shows Glory plans to cruise in November. Please note that this could change any day so please check back. We are waiting for the next CDC update as well.
    Sherry

  9. Hi Francis,
Thank you for your email. As of Carnival’s last published cancellation list on Sept. 3, 2020, Pride is still scheduled to depart in November. However, that could change any day so keep checking. Thanks, too, for reading my article.
    Sherry

  10. We are scheduled for a cruise on the Vista on November 14, 2020. Is this cruise still available or has it been cancelled?

  11. Hi Pamela,
Thank you for your question. As of right now, from the ship’s exclusion from the notice on their website, it appears that Carnival Glory will depart on November 1. There will be some announcements from Carnival soon, so stay tuned. Thank you for reading the article…much appreciated. I’ll post updates as I receive them.

  12. Hi Anthony,
Thank you for your question. I can see the confusion. Even though their latest news update does not directly cancel the Miracle departure, when I tried to book a November 2020 cruise to Hawai’i on the Carnival site, there wasn’t a cruise to book. There will be some announcements coming out soon but my feeling is that these longer cruises will not depart as planned. Sorry I couldn’t be more definite. If their latest travel update doesn’t cancel Miracle departure, but yet this sailing can’t be booked, it’s totally confusing. Stay tuned as more details emerge. Thank you again for taking the time to send your question.
    Sherry

  13. Hi Robert,
Thank you for your note. As of Sept. 3, it appears that your Carnival Miracle cruise is still scheduled. Stay tuned for more info as we get further into this month. Thank you for reading the article.

  14. We are booked on the Dec 13-18 Carnival Miracle out of San Diego to Cabo… no word yet…. am I missing anthing?

  15. Hi Darlene,
Happy almost-birthday! Thank you for reading the article. As of now, it’s anyone’s guess if Carnival will resume sailing by January 2021. As of September 1, 2020, Costa Rica only allows Americans from six states: Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Vermont and of course they would have to arrive by plane. It appears that Costa Rica is playing it safe by limiting incoming tourists. Whether they’ll open to North American-departure cruise ships early in 2021, I’m cautiously optimistic. Stay tuned as the situation progresses and cruise lines devise their health and safety protocols, and countries decide on who gets to visit. I hope you can celebrate your birthday as planned.
    Sherry

  16. I have booked my 50th Birthday cruise on Carnival Legend on Jan 9th 2021 for 8 days out of Tampa. Any updates if this cruise will sail and if the port of Costa Rica be open?

    Thank you,
    Darlene

  17. Hi Mary,
It depends on the ship that you booked. Please look through the list again and see if your ship is there. But I would almost bet that your cruise might be canceled. All you can do is wait and see what happens.
Thank you for writing and I’m sorry I don’t have any definite answer.
    Sherry

  18. BOOKED ON CRUISE WEEK OF THANKSGING NOVEMBER 21ST TO THANKSGIVING DAY 2020 ARE WE STILL AGO OR WILL IT BE CNCELED?

  19. Hi Gaylean,
Thank you for reading the article and sending your question. I think you answered your own question…if you are feeling anxious/nervous about going on a Thanksgiving cruise, will you be able to really enjoy a holiday cruise? On the other hand, if you’re a gambler, you could keep your booking and hope that your cruise gets canceled and reap any benefits Carnival will offer to save your booking. If it were me, I would not go. Especially since today Carnival extended their suspension through October. I don’t think any cruise lines will be able to either begin sailing or sail without an coronavirus-positive passenger til next spring, but that’s just my opinion. Whatever you decide to do or whenever you choose to cruise again, have a safe and happy sailing.
    Sherry

  20. We have a family cruise booked for thanksgiving on the Liberty. It is not on the list yet, but we are trying to decide if we should cancel. We are nervous to go.

  21. Hi Victoria,
Thank you for your email. You didn’t mention the ship, but I’ll assume it’s not on the new cancellation list. Personally, I don’t think there will be any cruising until 2021 or close to it. If the cruise does go, maybe you will be able to change the date without a penalty. However, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance with a Cancel for Any Reason waiver. Thank you again for reading the article.
    Sherry
