Here They Grow Again – Royal Caribbean Cruises Adds to Royal and Celebrity Fleet
Royal Caribbean Cruises to build more Oasis- and Edge-class cruise ships.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. just signed a memorandum of understanding with French Shipbuilder STX France to build a fifth Oasis-class ship to launch in Spring 2021. Over on the Celebrity side, two additional new Edge-class ships are each scheduled for Fall of 2021 and 2022.
Harmony of the Seas is a big success according to the executives over at Royal Caribbean and warrants yet another innovative mega-ship based on the Oasis of the Seas.
Celebrity, with the tag line, Modern Luxury, had their big hit with the launch of the Celebrity Solstice in 2008 and the subsequent four more Solstice-class ships; Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection.. Two new 2,900 guest Edge-class ships are on the books, but not scheduled for delivery until 2018 and 2020.
“Although our first Edge-class vessel is still over two years away from delivery, there has been a tremendous amount of interest around the new standard of style Edge-class will introduce,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “Solstice-class ushered in a new era of design for modern cruise ships, and Edge-class will not disappoint as the new generation of high style and design.”
While the new ship build order is contingent upon the completion of customary conditions, final contracts are expected to be completed within the quarter.
