Royal Caribbean Sends the Next Ship for Major Refurbishment

Next in line for a Royal Caribbean Royal Amplified ship makeover is Freedom of the Seas refurbishment to the tune of  $116 million dollars.

Freedom of the Seas Refurbishment and What You’ll See

This February, the Freedom of the Seas refurbishment will have the ship out of service so new restaurants, bars and attractions can be added.

As done on previous Royal Caribbean ships during their recent refurbishments, the biggest modification takes place on the pool deck. Look for more shaded and relaxation areas. There’ll be Splashaway Bay for kids as well as the infamous Perfect Storm waterslides are.

Also added to the pool deck will be The Lime & Coconut, Royal Caribbean’s newest poolside bar concept. The three-level bar offers specialty Caribbean-themed cocktails and live music. Plus, there’s a rooftop deck where you can look below and check out what’s happening.

New Freedom of the Seas Dining Options

Several dining options will be added that include Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen with hand-tossed pizzas and a special “Sunday Supper” menu. Next, Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, teppanyaki restaurant and sushi bar will offer a selection of appetizers, main courses and desserts. Of course, there will still be Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

The refurbishment will also include the popular El Loco Fresh being added. Here you can get casual Mexican fare like tacos, burritos and quesadillas. New for Royal Caribbean, this El Loco Fresh will also have its own full bar and a choice of tequilas.

Sports fans can head over to watch their favorite sporting events on a choice of 80 screens at Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade serving bar food and beer.

Family and Kid Spaces to be Upgraded

Family-friendly Royal Caribbean adds their glow in the dark laser tag experience, “Clash for the Crystal City”.

Adventure Ocean club is being redesigned with a focus on toddlers. Teen spaces will also get an upgrade that includes their own outside deck, plus movies and game areas. Adults won’t be left out when their tropical Solarium pool and lounge area receives a facelift.

On March 8, 2020, Freedom of the Seas refurbishment completed, the ship moves to its new homeport in San Juan. From there, the ship will cruise seven-night roundtrip sailings to the Southern Caribbean. The year-round departures will call at Aruba, Curacao, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Antigua and Bonaire.
