Norwegian Cruise Line Adds Longer Cruises in 2022-2023

Norwegian Cruise Line is planning something new for 13 of its 18 ships. Beginning in winter 2022 and continuing into 2023, Norwegian has announced a slew of longer cruises and itineraries that spend more time in port.

Norwegian Longer Cruises are “Extraordinary Journeys”

The new longer cruises from eight- to 21-days will include Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and more. Complete coast-to-coast Panama Canal transits, new Caribbean cruises that stop at Norwegian’s enhanced Private Island Great Stirrup Cay and West Coast cruises are among the highlights. 

“As we all continue to daydream of our next cruise vacation, we are excited to open for sale new itineraries for those eager to visit a tropical destination or dive into cultural experiences through one of our Extraordinary Journeys,” said Harry Sommer, Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive officer. “We are very hopeful we will resume operations soon but for now, our new itineraries will allow travelers to start planning ahead for their next cruise vacation with Norwegian Cruise Line.”

Where the new “Extraordinary Journeys” Will go

The new Extraordinary Journeys are a collection of longer, one-of-a-kind port-intensive voyages meant to inspire a sense of discovery and deeper connection with destinations around the world.

• Nov. 12, 2022: Norwegian Jewel will sail several Panama Canal complete transits with 12-day open-jaw (one-way) cruises from San Diego, Los Angeles and Colon, Panama. Passengers can plan additional pre-or-post cruise stays in Panama. The ship’s itineraries call at the Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, and Huatulco, Mexico. Then onto Central American cities of Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua, Puerto Caldera (Puntarenas), Costa Rica and Acajutla, El Salvador.
• Nov. 14, 2022:  Norwegian Getaway begins a 13-day European sailing from Southampton, United Kingdom to Rome  and the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. The ship will have its maiden port visits at Oporto, Portugal and Villefranche-sur-Mer, France. Onto Seville from the port of Cadiz, Spain, and then Malaga, Cartagena, Palma de Mallorca, and Barcelona. From Spain, Norwegian Getaway heads to Lisbon, Portugal, then Paris and the nearby port of Le Havre, France. Finally to Florence and Pisa from the port of Livorno and finally Naples, Italy.

More Panama Canal Cruises

In addition to Norwegian Jewel, from October 2022 through March 2023, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Joy offer a choice of itineraries also from eight to 21-days voyages traversing the Panama Canal.  Included on these cruises will be visits to destinations in the Caribbean as well as Central and Latin America.

Noteworthy Voyages

• Norwegian Encore from Seattle to Miami:  Norwegian’s newest ship, will begin a 21-day Panama Canal cruise on Oct. 23, 2022, from Seattle to Miami. During this sailing, eight out of 11 port-of-calls include a minimum of nine to 11 hours of port time, providing more time than usual to explore each port. 

• Norwegian Joy from Port Canaveral to Los Angeles:  Norwegian Joy makes her debut in Port Canaveral, Fla. and departs on Dec. 4, 2022 on a 14-day cruise from Orlando, Fla. to Los Angeles. Other ports of call include San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua and a stop in Cartagena, Colombia; Puerto Caldera (Puntarenas), Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

• Norwegian Gem will begin the New Year with several open-jaw 11-and-12-day cruises to and from New York and Panama City in January and February 2023. During the 12-day voyage from New York that departs on Jan. 2, the ship will make her debut in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, as well as the Pacific Cruise Terminal in Panama City during her 11-day voyage on Jan. 14.

Longer Caribbean Cruises, too. 
Starting January 28, 2022 through May 17, 2023, Norwegian offers a range of five days to longer 14-day cruises across the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean. The itineraries include a day at Harvest Caye, Norwegian’s newest resort destination in Belize. Other itineraries include a stop to their private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.

New to their Great Stirrup Cay destination is Silver Cove, an exclusive beachfront area offering luxury private villas, a private restaurant, Moët bar and Mandara Spa.

Ships sailing the Caribbean will be Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Sky.

More noteworthy longer cruises

• Norwegian Encore has an 11-day roundtrip Southern Caribbean voyage from Miami on Dec. 23, 2022. This will include a first-time visit to Castries, St. Lucia and St. John’s, Antigua. Other islands include Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire; St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
• Norwegian Breakaway will depart from New Orleans for either five, seven and nine-day roundtrip cruises to the Western Caribbean beginning Nov. 20, 2022.
• Norwegian Bliss homeports in Miami beginning Dec. 17, 2022 until April 1, 2023 for a season of seven-day Western Caribbean roundtrip cruises. Ports include Roatan Island, Honduras; Harvest Caye, Belize; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.
• Norwegian Getaway offers two longer 12-day Southern Caribbean cruises from New York City departing on Jan. 8 and Feb. 26, 2023. Ports include St. John’s, Antigua; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Castries, St. Lucia; Bridgetown, Barbados; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
